When I first picked up Elizabeth I had to roll the frame back under the body just to get her on the trailer, the guy I got her from had begun a body off frame restoration.
He had sand blasted the frame and painted it.He also put all new rear leaf brackets, front coil brackets , shock tower brackets and body mount brackets on the frame.
As you can see from these photos there wasn't much to the old girl, but I decided to take on the task of rebuilding her .Oh I forgot to mention that the guy I got her from had lost interest in this project and was junking her so I got her for nothing!
When I got her home I pushed her into my buddies tent/garage and started documenting my work with tons of photos. This sequence shows what the suspension and the floorboards looked like.It had 6" front coils on her 4 1/2" lift blocks in the rear .The floor had 4 holes cut out and at the far rear just under the tailgate where the body mounts go was gone.
So let's get welding!
As you can see I've got lots of work to do.Fist I welded in the floor patches and the rear body mount member. Then I installed the poly body mounts.
Next I put her up on jack stands so I could start the suspension.I dropped out the ford 9" and the stock leaf springs and installed the 3 1/2" Superlift rear leafs and the traction bars.

I then started the front end.I took out the 6" coils and replaced them with the 4" Superlift coils,4 Rancho RS5000 shock absorbers , Superlift adjustable track bar,Superlift radius arm brackets and poly "C" bushings.
Now it was time to drop the engine into the frame.I don't have any photos of the engine rebuild because I built it long before I even decided to do the project Bronco.
I picked up a 1972 351 Cleveland with 2 barrel heads.Here are the stock engine specs:250 horsepower 355 torque 9.5:1 compression 76cc heads with 2.04 int. valves 1.65 exhaust.
I ordered a standard rebuild kit from PAW with a high output oil pump and a hardened oil pump drive shaft, roller timing chain, weiand high volume aluminum water pump, edelbrock 4 barrel intake,MSD 6 ignition,MSD pro billet distributor,Holley 600 carb,Crane camshaft r/v towing,Crane valve springs,
keepers,push rods and lifters.
I tore down the motor and totally steam cleaned it and checked for cracks, honed the cylinders smooth, replaced the cam bearings, cleaned and polished the crankshaft and rebuilt the heads.
Next I installed the C6 transmission and the Borg Warner 1345 transfer case,I had to shim the trans. mount so the front shaft wouldn't hit the cross member,I also bolted up the Detroit locked 9" rear end.
NICE SNEAKERS!!
Now it's time for the fun stuff,I put in the Inline tube pre bent brake lines and hoses ,new steel fuel line, the 35" Baja Claw radials,MSD 6 ignition,MSD pro billet distributor,MSD blaster coil,Accel wires,Blackjack headers, custom bent 3" exhaust and the rest of the nose back on her and she was looking pretty good!
These should give her a little boost!
After I finished putting the nose on I painted and installed the dash and the wiring,I hooked up the fuel system ,rebuilt the left front axle shaft joint and
got the motor running and drove her out of the garage on her own power!!
ELIZABETH IS ALIVE!!!!
Now it was time to see what she could do,I had to shorten my driveshafts so I cut them at the welds with a grinder, cut the shaft with a tubing cutter, filed the inside edge smooth so I could insert the end into the shaft straight and weld it,so far no vibrations, even on the highway!I put on the front bumper, nerf bars and the 88 T-bird sport buckets and went to my nearest mudhole. We went there with the intention of getting her stuck and I sure did!!Luckily my buddy has a Warn 12000 winch on the front of his truck.
Man does she go good off-road!!
